Delhi, NY: The Cobleskill women's volleyball team fell in the NAC quarterfinals to SUNY Delhi 3-1 (25-20, 21-25, 25-17, 25-16) on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers suffered from a rough start in the first set and the broncos jumped out to an early 8-0 lead. Once the Tigers found their groove, they would go on a 7-2 run of their own to claw back 15-12. The two teams traded blows and the set remained close at 22-19 after an
Alexis Miranda (Nashua, NH) kill assisted by
Kasey Orlowski (Hewitt, NJ). Then, two Cobleskill errors gave Delhi all the separation they needed as they took the first set 25-20.
This time it was the Tigers that jumped out to an early 6-1 lead over Delhi to start the second set.
Victoria O'Bar (Middlebury, Conn.) delivered two aces that helped spark Cobleskill's early run. Delhi was quick to answer back with five unanswered points to tie the set, 6-6. The Tigers rallied back with their own 7-0 run to regain the lead at 17-12 and take control of the set. Cobleskill used back to back kills by
Abigail Scheurich (Oxford, Conn) to take the second set 25-21 and tie it up 1-1.
The third set saw both teams battle back and forth for an upper hand. Things remained close until Delhi used a 4-0 run to jump out to a 14-9 run followed by another 5-0 run to create a 23-15 lead over the Tigers. Cobleskill couldn't mount a comeback and dropped the third set, 25-17.
The Tigers led 9-7 over the Broncos to start the fourth set after a couple of errors by the hosts. Delhi turned up the pressure and used a 10-2 run to flip the game around and take a 17-11 lead over Cobleskill. The Tigers tried to battle back, but the broncos proved to be too much and took the final set 25-16.
Scheurich led the Tigers with 13 kills.
Kasey Orlowski (Hewitt, NJ) had a team high 15 assists and added. Libero
MacKenzie Larson (Winterset, IA) had an outstanding defensive game with a game high 32 digs for Cobleskill.
Delhi (14-10) was led by Sage Renneisen team high 13 kills. Jaiden Venute led all players with 32 assists in the game.
The Tigers (5-18) finished the game with 33 kills compared Delhi's 41. They added 27 assists, seven aces and 77 digs compared to the Broncos 36 assists, 11 aces and 50 digs.
With the loss, the Tigers 2022 season comes to end.
