Dallas, PA: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball fell to Misericordia University 67-51 on Wednesday night at the Anderson Sports-Health Center in Dallas, Pennsylvania.
Freshman
Audriana Hollister (Mooers Forks, NY/Northeast Clinton) played a well-rounded game and finished with a team-high 15 points (7-19) and seven rebounds. Sophomore
Annie Canales (North Adams, Mass/Hoosac Valley) added 14 points and
Taylor Meacham (Berne, NY/Berne-Knox Westerlo) collected a team-high nine rebounds and chipped in four points, three assists, a block and a steal.
The hosts jumped out to an early 8-2 lead over the Tigers, but Cobleskill battled back and cut the lead to 10-9 at the 4:20 mark in the first. Misericordia used a couple of Cobleskill turnovers to push their lead to 22-12 at the end of the quarter.
Hollister led the Tigers with six points and
Taylor Meacham and
Emily Satterday (Latham, NY/Shaker) both brought down three rebounds. Cobleskill shot well from the field, 5-12.
Both teams traded baskets early in the second quarter before
Annie Canales hit a three-pointer at the 5:20 mark to make it a 28-21 game. Misericordia used back-to-back threes by Alyssa Bondi to extend their lead to 36-21 with 2:56 to play in the first half. The Cougars went into the half with a 42-26 lead over Cobleskill.
At the half, the Tigers were shooting 44 percent from the field and 1-5 from three. Cobleskill held the rebounding advantage 21-18 over Misericordia. Hollister had a team-high 10 points on 5-8 shooting.
The Cougars picked up where they left off and built a 49-28 lead with 6:00 minutes to play in the third quarter. Misericordia used a 14-4 run to close out the third quarter with a 58-33 lead.
The Tigers opened the final quarter with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 58-41. Cobleskill continued to battle back, and a Canales three-pointer brought them within striking distance at 60-46 with 4:20 to play. However, Misericordia used their experience to see out the game to a 67-51 final.
Cobleskill (3-5) shot 34.9 percent (22-63) from the field and 18.8 percent from deep (3-16). Misericordia (7-0) caused 22 turnovers and outscored the Tigers bench 20-18. Cobleskill held the rebounding advantage 49-41.
Cobleskill will host SUNY Delhi in their first conference game of the season on Saturday, December 3
rd, at 1:00 pm at the Iorio Gymnasium.
