Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team returned to action on Tuesday afternoon battling the visiting Trailblazers of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) to a 1-1 tie in non-conference action at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex. With the tie the Fighting Tigers are now 1-2-1 overall on the year while the Trailblazers are currently 0-3-1 on the season to date.
Battling the rain and wind, the Fighting Tigers drew first blood when first-year forward
Ashlynn DeRonda, Saugerties, N.Y., Saugerties High School, scored on a breakaway in the 14
th minute of the game to give the home team a 1-0 advantage.
The Cobleskill defense held MCLA in check until the 84
th minute when Trailblazer first-year forward Cidnee Frymire, Tonawanda, N.Y., Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, connected from 18-yards out to tie the score at 1-1.
Over the final six minutes of the game neither team could find the back of the net leading to the tie.
Defensively the Fighting Tigers received a solid effort in the net from first-year goalkeeper
Brianna Rogers, Canton, N.Y., Hugh C. Williams High School, who made five saves on the afternoon and from first-year midfielder
Jessica Carney, Hopkinton, N.H., Hopkinton High School, who stifled numerous Trailblazer offensive opportunities.
The Orange & Black will next be in action on Saturday September 17 when they travel to Canton, N.Y. for their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opener versus the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton with kick-off at 3:30 p.m.
