Cobleskill Drops Road Match to Hartwick College

Oneonta, NY:  The Cobleskill women's volleyball team had a tough road trip to Hartwick College suffering a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-16) loss to the Hawks on Tuesday night at the Lambros Arena.

Hartwick came ready to play and jumped out to an early 10-0 before MacKenzie Larson (Winterset, IA) hammered home the Tigers first point of the set. After settling in, Cobleskill battled back and cut the lead to 20-14 before falling 25-15 to the Hawks.

The Hawks pressed forward and soared to 10-4 lead in the second set.  Cobleskill rallied and fought hard as Hartwick attempted to pull away, and a timely Larson kill brought the score to 16-11.  But the Hawks power proved to be too much as they went on a 9-2 run that included a few long rallies that could have went either way.  Hartwick took the second set, 25-13.

Cobleskill were much more competitive in the third set, and they took the lead 9-8 over the Hawks in the beginning stages of the set.  A powerful spike from Emily Wisniewski (Southbury, Conn.) tied things up at 10-10 for the Tigers. The teams would battle back and fourth in some nice sequences of play from both sides.  Hartwick used a 7-0 run late in the third set and cruised to a 25-16 win to sweep the Tigers.

Larson lead the Tigers with six kills and 39 total attacks.  Kasey Orlowski (Hewitt, NJ) had a team high 17 assists, four digs and chipped in one kill for the Tigers. Libero Victoria O'Bar (Middlebury, Conn.) added 16 digs for Cobleskill.

Hartwick (8-3) was led by Kaileigh Brandow's 12 kills, seven digs, two assists and one ace. Shaelyn Thornton and Staecia Silofau added 11 kills each for the Hawks.

The Tigers (1-8) finished the game with 34 digs, 21 kills, 21 assists and four blocks.  Cobleskill had a hard time finding success and finished with a -.021 attack percentage.

Cobleskill will look to shake off the loss on Thursday, September 22nd, as they travel to Castleton University for a 7 p.m. start.
