New York, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer made the trip to the Big Apple on Tuesday afternoon to post a 1-0 road victory over the host Cannoneers of the Pratt Institute in a non-league contest played on the turf at Randal's Island Field. With the victory the Fighting Tigers extend their current winning streak to two games and improve to 3-5-1 overall on the season while the Cannoneers fall to 0-6-1 overall.
After a scoreless first half which saw both defenses hold the opposing offenses in check, the Fighting Tigers drew first blood in the 49
th minute of action when junior forward
Conor Flanigan, Troy, N.Y., Troy High School, took a pass from senior forward
Derek Streeter, Ilion, N.Y., Central Valley Academy, and unleashed a shot that found the back of the net to make it 1-0 Cobleskill.
From that point on, the Cobleskill defense held the home team in check limiting them to only two shots on goal the rest of the way with first-year goalie
Adam Champlin, South Kortright, N.Y., South Kortright High School, saving both of them as part of a five-save outing and his second shutout of the year.
The Fighting Tigers will next return to action over the weekend when they step back into North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play traveling to Farmington, Maine on Saturday October 7 for a league meeting with the host Beavers of the University of Maine-Farmington with kick-off at 2:30 p.m. followed by a NAC match-up on Sunday October 8 with the Hornets of Vermont State University-Lyndon beginning at 2:30 p.m.
