Danbury, Conn.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team continued to play rude guests on Saturday afternoon posting their second consecutive road win of the season as the Fighting Tigers mauled the host Wolves of Western Connecticut State University (WestConn) by a 65-54 margin in non-conference action. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 2-0 overall on the season while the Wolves drop to 0-2 on the year.
In a game where shooting was colder than the Danbury weather, Cobleskill connecting on 20-of-61, 32.8%, and WestConn hitting on 17-of-54, 31.5%, it was the Fighting Tigers defensive prowess and control of the backboards that gave the visitors the win as the Orange & Black turned 19 Wolves' turnovers into 17 points while winning the rebounding battle by a 48-to-34 margin.
The Fighting Tigers also displayed improved depth and balanced scoring in the victory as the reserves contributed 23 points and 18 rebounds to the team's victory totals.
Junior guard/forward
Cara Walker, Phelps, N.Y., Midlakes High School, registered her second consecutive double/double of the year with team highs of 11 points and 11 rebounds to go with six steals and five assists while senior center
Logan Thayne, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Hoosick Falls High School, added 10 points, six rebounds and a blocked shot on the afternoon.
The Fighting Tigers also received strong play from junior guard
Antonia May, Amsterdam, N.Y., Amsterdam High School, with seven points, six rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot, senior forward
Hannah Cater, Schoharie, N.Y., Schoharie High School, with seven points, sophomore guard
Talia Washington, Schenectady, N.Y., Schenectady High School, who had six points, two rebounds and two assists and from sophomore center/forward
Emily Satterday, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, who had nine points and nine rebounds.
Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday November 18 when they travel to Troy, N.Y. for a non-conference meeting with the Engineers of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) with tip-off at 2:00 p.m.
