Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team closed out the 2023 portion of their schedule on a sour note on Wednesday evening as their 10-game season opening winning streak came to an end against the visiting Owls of Westfield State University by a 68-65 margin in non-conference action. With the loss the Fighting Tigers are now 10-1 overall on the season to date while the Owls improve to 5-6 overall on the year.
It was a tale of two halves for the Fighting Tigers as 20 first half turnovers and a 0-for-10 shooting effort from the three-point line staked the Owls to a 39-25 halftime advantage.
The second half saw Cobleskill trail 61-49 going into the fourth quarter when a Fighting Tiger rally cut the lead to 67-65 with 16 seconds remaining in regulation on a three-point field goal by junior
Annie Canales, North Adams, Ma., Hoosac Valley High School. After the Owls missed a pair of free throws with 8.8 seconds remaining the Fighting Tigers turned the ball over on a mad dash up the court forcing them to foul on the ensuing in bounds with 6.6 seconds left to play.
Owl senior center Jordan Grant, Gray, Maine, Gray-New Gloucester High School, split a pair of free throws making it 68-65 and with no time-outs remaining the Fighting Tigers hurried up the court under heavy defensive pressure leading to a long three-point attempt by junior forward
Cara Walker, Phelps, N.Y., Midlakes High School, which missed long to give the visitors the road victory.

Logan Thayne, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Hoosick Falls High School, led the Cobleskill comeback effort with 21 points, 13 rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals with junior guard/forward
Antonia May, Amsterdam, N.Y., Amsterdam High School, going for 13 points, 12 rebounds and two blocked shots on the evening.
The Orange & Black will return to action after the holidays on Wednesday January 4 when they travel to South Hadley, Ma. For a non-league meeting with the Lyons of Mount Holyoke College with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
