Fighting Tiger Women's Basketball Closes Regular Season With 62-51 Win Over SUNY Canton

Cobleskill Women Top SUNY Canton 62-51 to Close NAC Regular Season


Cobleskill, N.Y.: With the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play-offs a week away the SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball concluded the regular season by downing conference western division rival SUNY Canton by a 62-51 margin on Saturday afternoon at the Iorio Gymnasium. With the victory the Fighting Tigers close the regular season at 15-9 overall including an 11-3 record versus NAC opponents while the Kangaroos fall to 14-11 overall with a 9-5 record in league action.

In front of a spirited "Senior Day" crowd, the Fighting Tigers trailed 30-21 with 5:33 remaining in the third period when Cobleskill went on a 20-to-3 run to close out the quarter with a 41-33 lead from which they never looked back.

The Cobleskill defense once again keyed the comeback forcing the Kangaroos into 22 turnovers on the afternoon while dominating the paint outscoring their guests by a 26-10 margin inside to secure the victory.

The Fighting Tiger seniors celebrated their final home contest by dominating the inside action as center Jordan Finch, East Meredith, N.Y., South Kortright High School, scored 11 points, took down six rebounds and blocked a shot while forward/center Sierra Delaney, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, had 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals on the afternoon.

Cobleskill also received a pair of strong all-around efforts from sophomore guard Taylor Meacham, Berne, N.Y., Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School, with 11 points, five assists, five rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocked shots and from first-year guard-forward Audriana Hollister, Mooers Forks, N.Y., Northeast Clinton High School, who had 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot in a reserve role.

The Fighting Tigers will now await the NAC to announce the league's play-off seedings, dates and venues which will be announced upon the completion of all league contests early next week.
