Fighting Tiger Men's Basketball Falls in NAC Western Division Championship to SUNY Delhi 83-76 in Overtime

SUNY Cobleskill Men's Cagers End Season With 83-76 Loss to SUNY Delhi

Delhi, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball closed out their season on Saturday afternoon falling in overtime to the host Broncos of SUNY Delhi in the 2023 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division Championship Game 83-76. With the loss the Fighting Tigers end the year with an 18-9 overall record on the season while the Broncos are now 19-8 overall and advance to the league overall championship game next weekend in Farmington, Maine.

The Fighting Tigers came out on fire from the opening tip racing to a 16-4 advantage when junior guard Iziah Pigott, Brooklyn, N.Y., Urban Assembly High School, converted a lay-up in transition with 13:45 remaining in the half.

However, Delhi battled back as cutting the lead to 31-30 on a jumper by sophomore forward Pablo Quinones, Highland Mills, N.Y., Monroe-Woodbury High School, with 2:37 left in the half as backcourt foul trouble and a poor outing at the free throw line, 12-for-27, hampered the Fighting Tiger offense.

After both teams made defensive stands and missed free throws, Cobleskill closed the half with a 33-30 advantage when first-year guard Quanire Greene, Albany, N.Y., Bishop Maginn High School, split four free throws on two separate trips to the charity stripe to close the half.

In the second half the teams exchange leads early before the Broncos went on a 16-to-6 run to make the score 65-54 with 6:23 left to play. Once again, a combination of cold shooting and foul trouble plagued Cobleskill during the run.

However, the Fighting Tiger then battled back using their trademark defense to tie the score at 67-67 with 1:27 left in regulation on a short-range jump hook by senior forward Justin Feldman, Chester, N.Y., Chester High School/Orange Community College.

Delhi immediately responded on a jumper by sophomore guard Isiah Barnes, Elmont, N.Y., Elmont High School, making it 69-67 with 1:12 to play but once again Feldman came to the visitor's rescue canning a 15-foot step-back jumper for the left baseline to even the score at 69-69 with 21 seconds left in the game.

After a Delhi time-out with 18 seconds left, the Fighting Tigers made a defensive stand with first-year swingman Jeremy Rosario, Colonie, N.Y., Colonie High School, blocking a Bronco jumper with one second left to send the game into overtime.

But the overtime proved to be a different story for Cobleskill as the home team opened on a 12-to-2 run and never looked back on their way to victory and the divisional title.

Jeremy Rosario led the team in scoring with 17 points along with six rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot and Justin Feldman closed his Fighting Tiger career with a double/double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Junior center Markel Jenkins, Elmira, N.Y., Elmira High School/Corning Community College, had 11 points and nine rebounds on the afternoon while first-year point guard Quanire Greene, Albany, N.Y., Bishop Maginn High School, came off the bench to score a career high 11 points to go with seven rebounds and a blocked shot.
