Freshman
Audriana Hollister (Mooers Forks, NY) led the Tigers with 11 points and three rebounds off the bench. Freshman
Talia Washington (Schenectady, NY) added 10 points, three rebounds and an assist.
Emily Satterday (Latham, NY) was a force on the glass bringing down 13 rebounds to go with eight points.
The wildcats jumped out to an early 10-2 lead before a made jumper by
Hannah Cater (Schoharie, NY) and layup by
Taylor Meacham (Berne, NY) brought the Tigers to within four points, 10-6, at the 3:49 mark in the first quarter. The Tigers hit a cold streak as SUNY Poly pressed their advantage and closed out the quarter on a 7-0 run to lead 17-6 heading into the second quarter.
Satterday's layup at the 7:55 mark ended SUNY Polys 9-0 run. The Tigers couldn't get a foothold in the game as the wildcats built a 17-point lead, 25-8, with 5:27 remaining in the second quarter. Cobleskill struggled to get their offensive rolling as they shot 3-10 from the field, 0-4 from three and 2-8 from the charity stripe in the second quarter. SUNY Poly entered the half with a 31-14 lead.
At the half,
Sierra Delaney (Ballston Spa, NY) and
Emily Satterday were the Tigers leading scorers with four points each. The Tigers shooting woes was a major factor in the first half as they shot 6-23 from the field, 0-8 from three-point range and 2-12 from the free throw line.
Both teams defenses were on showcase in the third quarter as both teams struggled to score. SUNY Poly got their largest lead in the game, 37-14, with 7:09 to play in the third. Then the game didn't see another made basket from either team for a three-minute stretch until a made Delaney layup cut the lead to 37-16. Cobleskill seized their opportunity and outscored Poly 9-2 to close out the third quarter trailing 39-23 entering the fourth.
With 6:47 to play in the final quarter, Cobleskill found themselves behind 47-27. After a timeout by Coach Bowman, the Tigers went on the offensive. They fired up a 10-0 run to cut the lead to 47-37 with 2:08 to play. A Washington three-pointer brought Cobleskill to within eight points, 40-48, with a minute to complete the comeback. After Poly went 1 of 2 from the free throw line,
Annie Canales (North Adams, Mass) stepped up and nailed a three-pointer to bring the Tigers within 5 points with 12 seconds left. However, Cobleskill simply ran out of time and SUNY Poly hung on for a 51-45 victory.
Cobleskill outscored SUNY Poly 22-12 in the fourth quarter and 31-20 in the second half.
Cobleskill shot 24.2 percent (15-62) from the field and 13.6 percent from deep (3-22). SUNY Poly held the rebounding advantage 49-45. The Tigers bench outscored Poly 27-5 and they had 18 points off turnovers compared to SUNY Poly's nine points.
