Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team returned home on Wednesday afternoon to drop an 11-4 decision to the visiting Hawks of SUNY New Paltz in non-league action at Fighting Tiger Park. With the loss the Fighting Tigers drop to 10-11 overall while the Hawks improve to 7-15 on the season to date.
Coming off their North Atlantic Conference (NAC) road doubleheader sweep of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Tuesday, the Cobleskill pitching staff turned to a number of their younger arms to face New Paltz with an important NAC weekend series versus Cazenovia College on the horizon.
The Hawks tallied four first inning runs on a grand slam by first-year shortstop Fabian Apicella, Howard Beach, N.Y., Scholars Academy, and never looked back as the visitors recorded 14 hits and six walks on the afternoon against five different Cobleskill pitchers.
Offensively the Fighting Tigers were led by sophomore catcher
Logan Hutter, Smithtown, N.Y., Smithtown West High School, went 1-for-3 with his third home run of the season and junior utilityman
Matthew Snyder, Latham, N.Y., Shaker High School, who was 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. First-year team member
Dylan Schwam, Cooper City, Fla., South Plantation High School, was also a contributor at the plate going 1-for-1 with an RBI in a pinch hitting role.
