Cobleskill, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team faced a tough challenge against SUNY Delhi, falling 3-0 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match on Thursday night. The Fighting Tigers struggled to find consistency, dropping the sets 25-16, 25-19, and 25-17.
Baylee Kirschberg (Lindenhurst, NY) led Cobleskill with a team-high 11 digs, six assists, and two service aces.
Kathleen Smart (Nashville, Tenn./Pope John Paul II Prep) added four kills and seven assists, while
Ciarra Jager (Stephentown, NY/New Lebanon) had a game-high three blocks.
Jojo Haycock (Bowie, Md.) also contributed defensively with five digs.
In the first set, Delhi jumped out to a 6-1 lead and extended it to 12-2 before Cobleskill put together a 4-0 run to close the gap to 13-8. The Broncos built a 19-11 lead, but the Tigers fought back to 19-14, highlighted by a Jager kill assisted by Kirschberg. Delhi's offense proved too strong, however, as they took the set 25-20.
Cobleskill started strong in the second set, racing to a 7-1 lead. Kirschberg had two aces during the run, and first-year
Maya Cardenas-Powell (Portland, OR/Aloha) delivered a key kill. Delhi responded with several small runs to take an 18-14 lead. Despite Cobleskill's efforts to rally, the Broncos held firm and won the set 25-16.
In the third set, Delhi carried their momentum into an early 7-2 lead. Kills by Jager and
Ashley Wright (Glenfield, NY/South Lewis) helped Cobleskill close the gap, but errors hindered the Tigers' comeback attempts. Delhi used a 4-0 run to close out the set 25-14, sealing the match.
Cobleskill returns to action this Saturday, October 19, as they travel to Union College for the Union Classic. The Tigers will face Vassar College at 2:00 p.m., followed by a match against Union at 4:00 p.m.
