Cobleskill, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day with a commanding 3-0 win over Vermont State Lyndon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at the Cobleskill Soccer/Lacrosse Complex on Saturday.
The Fighting Tigers were powered by a brace from second-year forward
Connor Fancher (Worcester, NY), whose two-goal performance brought his season tally to 11. Senior
Conor Flanigan (Troy, NY) added a goal to mark his Senior Day, while fellow senior
Cody Petschko (New Hyde, NY/FDR) chipped in with two assists to help secure the win. Second-year defender
Samuel Spraker (Broadalbin-Perth, NY) recorded his first assist of the season.
The Cobleskill defense was solid throughout, allowing just one shot on goal, which goalkeeper
Adam Champlin (South Kortright, NY) saved during his 60 minutes of play.
Joe Wille (Gilboa, NY/Gilboa-Conesville) came on for the final 30 minutes to complete the shutout.
Cobleskill dominated the stat sheet, outshooting Vermont State Lyndon 28-4, with 11 shots on target. The Tigers also had a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks, maintaining control of possession for much of the match. Vermont State Lyndon's keeper finished with eight saves, while Cobleskill needed just one.
Fancher opened the scoring in the 27th minute, finding the back of the net after an assist from Petschko. He struck again early in the second half, netting his second goal in the 49th minute off a feed from Spraker. Flanigan wrapped up the scoring in the 52nd minute, finishing a Petschko assist with a well-placed shot.
The Fighting Tigers will be back in action tomorrow, October 20
th, hosting VTSU-Johnson in a NAC matchup at 12:00 p.m. at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
