Cobleskill Edged 1-0 by VTSU-Johnson on Senior Day

Samantha Rotundo records 10 saves in the defeat

Cobleskill, NY: On Senior Day at the Cobleskill Soccer/Lacrosse Complex, the SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Vermont State University Johnson in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match on Sunday afternoon. Despite strong efforts from the Fighting Tigers, they were unable to find the back of the net. The loss drops Cobleskill to 0-7 overall and 0-3 in NAC play, while Johnson improves to 7-4-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Cobleskill goalkeeper Samantha Rotundo (New Egypt, NJ) was a standout for the home team, recording 10 saves in the full 90 minutes of play. Defender Erin Hensel (Niskayuna, NY) and Gabriella Beaumier (St. Johnsbury, Vt) each registered shots on goal, but Cobleskill was unable to capitalize. Johnson's goalkeeper Isabel Atkisson made four saves to secure the shutout.

During the match, Johnson outshot Cobleskill 13-4, including 11 shots on goal compared to Cobleskill's four. The Badgers also earned four corner kicks, while Cobleskill had none. The defensive pressure from both teams was evident with a combined 14 fouls committed.

The decisive moment came at the 24:30 mark of the first half when Johnson's Peyton Fairchild scored the game's only goal, assisted by Olivia Davis. Despite Cobleskill's best efforts, the Tigers could not find an equalizer. A red card incident at the 59:07 minute for both teams added drama to the second half, but neither side could find the back of the net in a physical and competitive contest.

The Fighting Tigers return to action next Saturday, October 26th, as they face SUNY Delhi at 3:30 p.m. in the final game of their regular season.
