Kathleen Smart led Cobleskill’s attack with five kills and eight digs

Delhi, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team fell to SUNY Delhi in three sets, with scores of 23-25, 21-25, and 14-25, in a North Atlantic Conference matchup on Wednesday evening.

Kathleen Smart (Nashville, Tenn./Pope John Paul II Prep) led Cobleskill's attack with five kills and eight digs, while Hallie Gasner (Middleburgh, NY) added five kills along with a block assist. Baylee Kirschberg (Lindenhurst, NY) contributed a well-rounded performance with three kills, six digs, and six assists, and Emma Hinze (Altenburg, Mo/Saxony Lutheran) chipped in with two kills and seven digs. Setter Jade Ward (Miami, FL/Felix Varela) orchestrated the offense with eight assists and added a service ace and three digs, further strengthening the team's defensive presence.

Delhi managed a slight edge in key statistical areas, leading in attack percentage (.116 to Cobleskill's -.090) and total kills (29-19). They also held a margin in service aces (7-2) and blocks (4-1), giving them the edge at the net.

The first set was an even battle, with Delhi holding only a slight 12-11 lead before gaining momentum with a 3-0 run. Cobleskill fought back to tighten the score to 20-21, with Gasner and Hinze delivering key kills. Despite the rally, Delhi managed a late push to take the set 25-23.

In the second set, Cobleskill came out strong, taking a narrow 10-9 lead with a powerful spike from Gasner off a Jojo Haycock (Bowie, Md) assist. The teams exchanged points evenly, reaching a 20-20 deadlock before Delhi went on a 5-1 run to secure the set 25-20.

The third set saw a similarly competitive start, but Delhi capitalized on a seven-point run that built a lead the Fighting Tigers couldn't overcome, ultimately closing the match 25-14.

The Fighting Tigers will look to bounce back as they head to VTSU-Castleton for a tri-match on November 2, where they'll take on UMass-Boston at 4:00 p.m.
