Delhi, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision on the road to SUNY Delhi on Monday night. Despite a strong first half that ended 1-1, the Fighting Tigers were unable to maintain momentum as Delhi pulled away with two second-half goals.
Connor Fancher (Worcester, NY) scored the lone goal for Cobleskill, assisted by
Spencer Reisman (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston Porter). That goal brought Fancher's season total up to eight goals and Reisman's assist total to six. Second-year keeper
Adam Champlin (South Kortright, NY) made six saves in goal for the Fighting Tigers while fellow second-year keeper
Joe Wille finished the game with one save.
SUNY Delhi took the lead in the 18th minute when Garrett Gill scored from a Roberto Velasquez-Osorio assist. Cobleskill quickly responded, leveling the match in the 22nd minute as
Connor Fancher found the back of the net off a perfect pass from
Spencer Reisman.
Despite a resilient defensive effort from Cobleskill, Delhi took control in the second half. Gill struck again in the 51st minute, this time assisted by Matthew Pozo, before John Walsh sealed the game for the Broncos with a goal in the 54th minute, with Velasquez-Osorio adding his second assist of the match. Cobleskill pushed for a late goal to bring them within striking distance, but the Delhi defense answered each challenge.
Delhi held the advantage in total shots 17 (11) to 4 (2) and in corner kicks 12-0.
