Delhi, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team fell to SUNY Delhi in the NAC West Division Championship game on Sunday, closing out their season with a 4-0 loss on Delhi's home field.Â
Â
Cody Petschko (New Hyde Park, NY/Franklin D. Roosevelt) led Cobleskill with one shot on goal, while
Andrew Rimes (Walden, NY/Mount Academy) added another shot to challenge Delhi's defense. However, Delhi's defense proved effective, keeping Cobleskill's duo of
Connor Fancher (Worcester, NY) and
Spencer Reisman (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston Porter) in check throughout the game and limiting their offensive opportunities. Second-year keeper
Adam Champlin (South Kortright, NY) recorded five saves on the day.
Â
Delhi held the advantage with 13 shots, including nine on goal, while Cobleskill managed five shots with three on target. Both teams had close to the same amount of set pieces, as Cobleskill earned five corner kicks compared to Delhi's four. The game was also physical, with Cobleskill committing 13 fouls and Delhi tallying 19.
Â
The Broncos broke the game open with two first-half goals, adding two more in the second half to seal the victory. Roberto Velasquez-Osorio scored the game's opener in the 22nd minute, with Kian Flynn doubling the lead just six minutes later. Despite Cobleskill's persistent efforts, Delhi's second-half goals from Michael Williams Jr. and Erik Kleczkowski solidified the win, ending Cobleskill's playoff run.
Â
With the loss, the 2024 soccer season comes to an end after a historic season that saw the Tigers pick up their first postseason win since 2018.
