Cobleskill, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team secured a 78-67 win over Russell Sage College in non-conference action on Thursday night in Iorio Gymnasium during their Staff and Faculty Appreciation Game.

Cobleskill's victory was fueled by senior Logan Thayne (Hoosick Falls, NY), who tallied her 11th double-double of the season with 13 points, 14 rebounds, two blocks, and an assist. Fellow senior Cara Walker (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) led the team in scoring with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting, adding six rebounds and four assists. Taylor Meacham (Berne, NY/BKW) contributed an all-around performance with 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Antonia May (Amsterdam, NY) anchored the paint with 11 rebounds, seven points, and three blocks, while Mady Victorin (Menands, NY/Shaker) and Annie Canales (North Adams, MA/Hoosac Valley) added nine points apiece off the bench.

Although Russell Sage held a slight shooting edge, hitting 40.0 percent to Cobleskill's 38.0 percent from the floor, the Fighting Tigers dominated the glass with a 51-38 rebounding advantage. Cobleskill's defense forced 17 turnovers, converting them into 23 points, and outpaced the Gators in second-chance opportunities with a 21-6 edge. The Tigers also relied on their depth, outscoring Sage's bench 29-21.

The game opened with both teams trading baskets, leading to a 5-5 tie at the 5:19 mark of the first quarter. Cobleskill seized control with a stifling 13-0 run, sparked by six points from Talia Washington (Schenectady, NY), to close the period up 18-5.

The Tigers extended their lead in the second quarter, highlighted by an and-one play from Meacham and a Victorin layup assisted by Canales. Cobleskill entered halftime with a comfortable 40-23 advantage.

Cobleskill built their largest lead at 60-38 late in the third quarter after a Thayne layup assisted by Walker. However, Russell Sage mounted a spirited comeback in the fourth, cutting the deficit to 74-67 with 2:31 left. The Tigers responded decisively as Walker sparked a 4-0 run to secure the victory.

Now 10-2 on the season, the Fighting Tigers will enjoy a holiday break before hosting Western Connecticut State University on January 2 at 4:00 p.m. in Iorio Gymnasium.
