Morrisville, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team upset the second seeded Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) on Friday evening in the opening round of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division Championship Tournament hosted by the Mustangs of SUNY Morrisville by a 90-74 margin. With the victory the number three seeded Fighting Tigers improve to 16-10 overall and advance to Saturday's Divisional Championship Game while the Wildcats finish the year at 16-10 overall.
Throughout the evening the Fighting Tigers torched the Wildcat defense with hot shooting as Cobleskill connected on 30-of-59, 50.8%, of their field goal attempts and 24-of-30, 80.0%, of their free throw attempts.
The Orange & Black's offensive attack was spearheaded by the trio of senior guard
Andre Starks, Rochester, N.Y., Fairport High School/Corning Community College, who scored a team high 23 points to go with five rebounds and two steals, sophomore guard
Kobe Long, Rochester, N.Y., McQuaid Jesuit High School, who had 22 points, five rebounds and three assists and senior center
Markel Jenkins, Elmira, N.Y., Elmira High School/Corning Community College, who also had a season high of 22 points along with seven rebounds, three assist and a pair of blocked shots.
Sophomore swingman
Jeremy Rosario, Colonie, N.Y., Colonie High School, was also a factor in the victory with nine points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots while junior forward
Chalik Oxley, Manhattan, N.Y., High School for the Graphic Arts/Mohawk Valley Community College, came off the bench to score eight points and grab six rebounds.
