Marcy, N.Y.: In a series that could have significant impact on the 2024 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play-off picture, the SUNY Cobleskill baseball team opened their weekend road series versus the Wildcats of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) on Friday afternoon in impressive fashion posting an 11-2 victory. With the win the Fighting Tigers are now 14-19 overall on the season including a 9-2 record in league action to lead the NAC Western Division while the Wildcats fall to 16-15 overall including a 6-5 record in conference contests.
The Fighting Tigers flexed some serious offensive muscle at the plate touching up Wildcat pitching for 15 hits, including five of the extra base variety, on the afternoon to secure the conference victory.
The Orange & Black attack was paced by many including senior shortstop
David Flora, Windsor, N.Y., Windsor High School/Herkimer Community College, who was 2-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and an RBI, senior right fielder
Samuel Gutierrez, Queens, N.Y., Martin Van Buren High School/Queensborough Community College, who was 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI and junior catcher
Dylan Pohl, East Meadow, N.Y., East Meadow High School, who was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI.
Cobleskill also received strong efforts at the plate from junior second baseman
Stephen Tejada, Queens, N.Y., High School, for Construction Technologies, who was 2-for-6 with a stolen base, a run scored and a pair of RBI and from sophomore designated hitter
Jesus Sarda, Colonie, N.Y., Colonie High School, who was 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
With ample offensive support, senior right hander
Wyatt Palmer, Camden, N.Y., Camden High School/Cayuga Community College, held the Wildcats in check for eight innings allowing one earned run on six hits while striking four with no walks.
Cobleskill and SUNY Poly will conclude their weekend conference series on Saturday, April 27, with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
