Castleton, Vt.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's cross country team opened their 2024 campaign by  posting a team score of 52 points to place second in a six-team field at the Northern Vermont University-Castleton Invitational hosted by the Spartans on the University's home course on Saturday August 31.
 
The Fighting Tigers were led by junior Nik Recore, Peru, N.Y., Peru High School, who won the event for his first career invitational victory bettering the 46-runner field by covering the 8000-meter course in a time of 28:46 with junior teammate Daniel Jaffin, Woodbury, Conn., Nonnewaug High School, placing eighth overall in a time of 30:44 on the afternoon.
 
Cobleskill also received scoring efforts from sophomore Estaban Delgado, New Rochelle, N.Y., New Rochelle High School, who placed 14^th overall in 32:13, junior Vladamire Sheehan, Windsor, N.Y., Windsor High School, who placed 16^th in 32:37 and sophomore Antonio Gonzalez, Niskayuna, N.Y., Niskayuna High School, who finished in 18^th place overall with a time of 32:47.
 
The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Saturday September 7 when they host their annual Steven A. Warde Invitational on the campus cross country course beginning at 10:30 a.m.
