Johnson, VT: The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against the Badgers of VTSU-Johnson on Saturday afternoon.
For the Fighting Tigers, second-year forward
Jake Trendell (Cobleskill, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) scored the lone goal, assisted by
Spencer Reisman (Youngstown, NY/Lewiston Porter). Second-year goalkeeper
Adam Champlin (South Kortright, NY) made five saves to help keep Cobleskill in the match. Reisman led the Tigers with three shots (two on target), while
Connor Fancher (Worcester, NY),
Conor Flanigan (Troy, NY) and
Andrew Rimes (Walden, NY/Mount Academy) each contributed two shots.
The Tigers outshot the Badgers 14-10 (9-6 in shots on goal) and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Johnson's goalkeepers combined for eight saves, including a few key stops.
The Badgers struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute when Spencer Tergeglou connected with Oakley Francis on a set piece. Cobleskill responded in the 23rd minute as Reisman found Trendell on the far post, who controlled the ball and buried it into the back of the net to level the score.
Despite dominating the second half in terms of chances, the Fighting Tigers couldn't find a go-ahead goal. In the closing moments,
Tyler Szarek (Westmoreland, NY) set up Rimes on a counterattack, but Rimes' shot narrowly missed the mark, and the match ended 1-1.
Cobleskill returns to action tomorrow, September 29th, for a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) road game against VTSU-Lyndon, with kickoff scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
