Cobleskill, NY: The Fighting Tigers celebrated Senior Day in style with a dominant 5-0 North Atlantic Conference victory over the Hornets of VTSU-Lyndon on Saturday afternoon at the Cobleskill Soccer Complex.
Senior forward
Spencer Reisman (Youngstown, NY) led the Tigers' attack with two goals, capping an outstanding performance in his final home weekend.
Gavin McEnroe (Burlington Flats, NY) orchestrated the offense with a goal and two assists, while
Jake Lewis (Niskayuna, NY) added a goal and an assist in a career outing.
Connor Fancher (Worcester, NY) contributed on both ends of the pitch with a goal and two assists, providing key passes that broke through the Lyndon backline.
Defensively, the backline of
Garrett Aikins (Morris, NY),
Samuel Spraker (Broadalbin-Perth, NY),
Rob Staubitz (East Rockaway, NY), and
Andrew Rimes (Walden, NY) anchored the Tigers' first clean sheet of the season, with Spraker also adding an assist on the attack.
In goal,
Adam Champlin (South Kortright, NY) and
Joe Wille (Gilboa, NY) split time between the posts, combining for the shutout. Champlin recorded the lone save of the match, while Wille secured the win.
Cobleskill controlled the run of play from start to finish, outshooting Lyndon 22-3 with 13 shots on goal compared to the Hornets' one. The Tigers also held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Tigers wasted no time getting on the board, as Reisman buried a through ball from Fancher just 36 seconds into the match. Less than five minutes later, Lewis doubled the lead with a strike to the top right corner, assisted by McEnroe. The early surge continued in the eighth minute when Fancher slotted home a goal to make it 3-0, with Lewis returning the favor on the assist. Cobleskill continued to apply pressure throughout the half, taking a three-goal lead into the break.
Five minutes into the second half, McEnroe flicked a header over the Lyndon keeper off a feed from Fancher to extend the lead. In the 62nd minute, Reisman sealed the result by beating his defender and sliding the ball past the charging keeper for his second goal of the afternoon, assisted by McEnroe.
