Lyndonville, Vt. – The SUNY Cobleskill women's volleyball team continued their strong play in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Saturday afternoon, sweeping Vermont State University–Lyndon 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-8) inside George W. Stannard Gymnasium to extend their win streak to four matches.
Emma Hinze (Altenburg, Mo.) led the Fighting Tigers with seven kills, a team-high six service aces, and 10 digs in another all-around performance.
Hallie Gasner (Middleburgh, NY) powered the offense with a match-high eight kills and added five digs, while
Kathleen Smart (Nashville, Tenn.) contributed six kills and nine digs. Setter
Baylee Kirschberg (Lindenhurst, NY) dished out a match-high nine assists with seven digs, and fellow setter
Jade Ward (Miami, Fla.) added eight assists and two kills. Libero
Jojo Haycock (Bowie, Md.) anchored the defense with six digs to round out the balanced team effort.
Cobleskill's offense clicked across all rotations, finishing with 29 kills compared to Lyndon's 15 while recording 25 assists to the Hornets' 13. The Tigers dominated behind the service line with 16 aces and controlled the back row with 51 digs to Lyndon's 38.
Lyndon opened the first set strong, jumping out to an 8-1 lead before Cobleskill found their rhythm. The Fighting Tigers rallied with a 4-0 run highlighted by a kill from
Audrey Davis (Hudson Falls, NY) to take their first lead at 14-12. With the score even at 20-20, back-to-back aces from Ward gave Cobleskill late momentum, and Hinze closed out the set with a kill to seal the 25-23 win.
Cobleskill carried that energy into the second set, building an 8-4 advantage after consecutive kills from Smart, Gasner, and Hinze. Lyndon closed within one at 10-9, but the Tigers erupted for 10 unanswered points behind three aces from Hinze and a string of kills from Gasner to take full control. A late ace from
Kaleigh Capasso (Ballston Spa, NY) capped a dominant 25-11 second-set victory.
The Tigers left little doubt in the third set, breaking open a tight 6-5 start with an 11-0 run fueled by strong serving and front-row pressure. Hinze added two more aces during the stretch, and an ace from
Madison Ellerbe (Bronx, NY) extended the lead to 19-6. Cobleskill never looked back, cruising to a 25-8 win to complete the sweep.
