Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Cobleskill Comes Up Short After Second-Half Surge by Maine Maritime

Castine, ME – The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team battled early but couldn't withstand a tough second-half stretch on Saturday, falling 65-40 to Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference play.

Zaylee Ramos (Worcester, NY) paced the Tigers with 10 points and eight boards, while Hannah Bonczkowski (Gilbertsville, NY) added nine points and continued her steady scoring presence. Emilie Eritano (Madison Heights, MI) and Kayleigh Bryant (Schenevus, NY) chipped in five points each, with Bryant also recording a block and a steal. Sydney Delisle (Mechanicville, NY) ran the point with three assists.

Both defenses forced difficult looks throughout the afternoon. Cobleskill shot 25.5 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from three, while the Mariners finished at 29.5 percent and 19.2 percent from deep. Maine Maritime gained separation at the line, going 14-of-22 compared to Cobleskill's 6-of-9, and controlled the boards with a 64–40 advantage. The Tigers' bench again delivered, outscoring the hosts 26–23, but 21 turnovers proved costly.

Cobleskill came out sharp, taking a 12-9 lead late in the first after a strong drive from Bonczkowski and extending it to 15-11 on her buzzer-beater off a setup from Ramos. The Tigers kept momentum early in the second as Ramos' hook shot pushed the lead to 17-11. Maine Maritime responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead and later built a six-point gap, but Bryant's driving layup and a pull-up jumper from Kyra Pence (Randolph, NY) helped trim the deficit to 25-26 at halftime.

The game tightened early in the third as Mady Victorin knocked down a mid-range jumper to make it 27-30, but the Mariners answered with six straight to regain control. A crafty finish from Kate Hadwen stopped the run, but Maine Maritime continued to stack buckets, taking a 48-31 lead into the fourth.

Maine opened the final quarter on an 11-0 surge before Ramos hit a tough fadeaway to halt the run. Eritano later drained the first three-pointer of her career with 4:02 to play, but the gap proved too large to close as the Tigers fell on the road.

Up Next:
Cobleskill returns to action after Thanksgiving on Monday, December 1, traveling to Russell Sage for a 5:00 p.m. non-conference matchup.
