Cobleskill, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team wrapped up their regular season in dominant fashion, defeating VTSU-Lyndon 79-52 on Senior Day at the Iorio Gymnasium. With the victory, the Fighting Tigers secured a perfect 11-0 record at home for the first time in program history and locked in the top seed for the NAC West Division Tournament.
Fittingly, Cobleskill's seniors stole the show.
Antonia May (Amsterdam, NY) led the way with a game-high 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including 3-of-6 from deep, while adding four rebounds, three steals, and a block.
Logan Thayne (Hoosick Falls, NY) extended her double-double streak to 11 games, finishing with 13 points, 12 rebounds, and a career-high six blocks.
Taylor Meacham (Berne, NY/BKW) delivered an efficient 14-point performance on 6-of-8 shooting, chipping in four assists, three rebounds, a block, and a steal.
Cara Walker (Phelps, NY/Midlakes) rounded out the senior dominance with 12 points, four assists, four rebounds, and two steals.
Cobleskill was locked in offensively, shooting 48.2 percent from the floor and 40.0 percent from three-point range while converting 85.0 percent of their free throws. The Tigers outrebounded Lyndon 38-33 and turned 18 turnovers into 21 points while allowing just seven in return. Cobleskill also controlled the paint with a 32-24 scoring edge and doubled up the visitors in bench production, 16-4.
The Tigers set the tone early, with May scoring five straight points to open the game. Her three-pointer midway through the first quarter pushed the lead to 14-4, and after Lyndon momentarily cut it to 14-10, Thayne drilled a deep ball to reestablish control. Cobleskill closed the quarter strong and led 19-12 after 10 minutes.
May remained hot in the second, scoring seven of the Tigers' first eight points to stretch the lead to 27-13. Meacham's layup and a three-pointer from
Talia Washington (Schenectady, NY) extended the margin to 39-18, and May capped the half with four straight points, sending Cobleskill into the locker room up 43-23.
The Tigers continued to pull away in the third, opening on an 8-3 run to build a 51-26 cushion. Walker buried a three off a Meacham assist, and a pair of free throws from Meacham gave Cobleskill a commanding 58-34 advantage heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth, Cobleskill's depth took over.
Laci Prignon (Dryden, NY) found
Sierra Goodson (Amsterdam, NY) for a wide-open three, and moments later,
Audriana Hollister (Mooers Forks, NY/Northeast Clinton) converted a layup to give the Tigers their largest lead at 75-44. Cobleskill closed out their perfect home season in dominant fashion, securing the top seed for the NAC West Tournament.
The Fighting Tigers will return to action on Friday, February 21, hosting VTSU-Johnson at 5:30 p.m. in the first round of the NAC West Division Tournament
