The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team opened its 2025 season on the road Saturday, taking on St. Joseph's (L.I.) in a doubleheader at Gregg Alfano Field. The Fighting Tigers battled in a close 5-4 loss in the opener before struggling in game two, falling 21-5.
Game 1: St. Joseph's (L.I.) 5, SUNY Cobleskill 4
Cobleskill wasted no time getting on the board, striking for two runs in the top of the first.
Trevor Grieb (Red Hook, NY) scored on a
Jesus Sarda (Colonie, NY) RBI double, and Sarda later stole home on a double steal with
Logan Firment (Andes, NY/South Kortright) to give the Tigers an early 2-0 lead.
Cobleskill extended its advantage in the third when
Cole Platt (Oneonta, NY) drove in Firment with a groundout, making it 3-0. However, St. Joseph's responded with four runs in the fourth, including a home run, to take the lead. The Tigers fought back in the sixth, as
David Flora (Windsor, NY) singled to right field to score pinch-runner
Troy Enamait (Vernon, CT/Rockville), tying the game at 4-4. The Golden Eagles answered in the bottom of the seventh, pushing across the deciding run to secure the win.
Cobleskill finished with eight hits, led by
Christian Tedford (Coxsackie, NY/Coxsackie-Athens), who went 2-for-4. Sarda, Platt, and Flora each recorded an RBI, while Ducorsky, Flora, and Sarda all added a hit. Sarda, Firment, and Flora also swiped a base apiece.
Dylan Schwam (Cooper City, FL/South Plantation) delivered a strong start, tossing three hitless innings while striking out two.
Connor Mulligan (Cheshire, NY) and
Adam Champlin (South Kortright, NY) also saw action, with Mulligan allowing four runs and striking out two.
Reis Brammer (Cohoes, NY/CBA Albany) took the loss (0-1) after surrendering the game-winning run in the seventh. The Cobleskill staff combined for six strikeouts while allowing just two hits, though defensive struggles proved costly.
Game 2: St. Joseph's (L.I.) 21, SUNY Cobleskill 5
The second game started as a pitcher's duel, but St. Joseph's broke through with six runs in the third inning and five more in the fourth to take control.
Cobleskill's offense found some life in the later innings, with Firment bringing home a run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth and
Korin Laurilla (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) lacing a two-run triple in the eighth. Laurilla and Ducorsky each recorded two hits, while Firment finished with an RBI. Ducorsky and Sarda each added a stolen base.
On the mound,
Logan Scott (Binghamton, NY) took the loss (0-1) after two solid innings before the Golden Eagles' bats came alive. The Cobleskill bullpen combined for six strikeouts despite St. Joseph's collecting 17 hits.
The Fighting Tigers (0-2) return to action next Saturday, March 8, when they travel to Union College for a 12:00 p.m. doubleheader.
