Davenport, FL: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team kicked off their spring break trip with a solid 6-4 victory over Penn State Brandywine on Tuesday evening, powered by timely hitting and strong pitching.
The Tigers' offense was ignited by senior
Zach Ducorsky (Oceanside, NY), who delivered a standout 3-for-4 performance at the plate with an RBI, one run scored, and two stolen bases to wreak havoc on the basepaths.
Jesus Sarda (Colonie, NY) added a team-high two RBIs while going 1-for-3 at the dish.
Anthony Sergi (Chenango Forks, NY) contributed with a 2-for-3 showing, driving in a run and swiping two bags.
Ryan Lansing (Cooperstown, NY) chipped in with an RBI and a stolen base of his own.
On the bump, freshman
Tyler Sienko (Binghamton, NY/Windsor) earned his first collegiate win with a gritty 4.2-inning performance, striking out two while limiting damage.
Adam Champlin (South Kortright, NY) slammed the door in the ninth to secure his first save of the season.
Penn State Brandywine jumped out early, plating a run in both the first and third innings to grab a 2-0 lead. Cobleskill responded in the bottom of the third when
David Flora (Windsor, NY) ripped a single to right, driving in Sergi to cut the deficit to 2-1. The Tigers kept the momentum rolling in the fourth when Sergi singled to right to bring home
Christian Tedford (Coxsackie, NY/Coxsackie Athens), knotting the score at 2-2.
The Tigers took control in the fifth when Ducorsky's aggressive baserunning paid off, scoring on a wild pitch to give Cobleskill a 3-2 edge. The offense erupted in the seventh, as Sarda laced a single to right to bring home Flora and Ducorsky. Moments later,
Cole Platt (Oneonta, NY) ripped a shot to left field to score Sarda and extend the lead to 6-3.
Penn State Brandywine threatened with a run in the eighth, but Cobleskill's defense held firm. Champlin entered in the ninth, calmly shutting down the heart of Brandywine's lineup to lock up the 6-4 win for the Fighting Tigers.
