Auburndale, FL: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team wrapped up their latest contest at the Russmatt with a 6-3 loss to St. Norbert College on Sunday afternoon.
Cobleskill's offense was led by
Troy Enamait (Vernon, CT/Rockville), who went 3-for-4 with a triple, while
Christian Tedford (Coxsackie, NY/Coxsackie Athens) drove in two runs.
Zach Papanikolatos (Patchoque, NY/Patchoque-Medford) contributed a 2-for-5 performance with a stolen base, and
Jesus Sarda (Colonie, NY) added a double. On the mound,
Evan Balbera (Patchoque, NY/Patchoque-Medford) took the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) over 2.2 innings.
Greg Mable (New Fairfield, CT) and
Jack Laughlin (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) combined for 6.1 innings of relief, with Laughlin throwing 4.2 scoreless frames and striking out eight.
While Cobleskill outhit St. Norbert 9-7, the Fighting Tigers stranded 11 runners on base. St. Norbert capitalized on Cobleskill miscues, scoring twice on balks and another run on a wild pitch. The Green Knights' bullpen held firm, limiting Cobleskill to one unearned run over the final four innings.
The game started with an exchange of early runs, as St. Norbert struck first on an error, only for Cobleskill to respond with an aggressive baserunning play that saw Papanikolatos steal home to even the score at 1-1. However, the Green Knights broke the game open in the second inning, plating four runs on a mix of singles, defensive lapses, and errant pitches.
Cobleskill chipped away in the third when Tedford drove in Sarda with a groundout, but St. Norbert countered in the fourth with a solo homer to make it 6-2. The Fighting Tigers had a golden opportunity in the fifth after a pair of defensive mistakes put runners in scoring position, but they managed just one run on Tedford's RBI single.
From there, pitching took over as Laughlin kept Cobleskill within striking distance by retiring 14 straight batters. However, the Fighting Tigers couldn't muster a late rally, stranding a runner in the seventh and going down in order in the eighth. A leadoff single in the ninth by Papanikolatos was erased on a fielder's choice, and St. Norbert closed the door for the win.

The Tigers will look to bounce back in the final game down in Florida tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. against Simpson College.
