Cobleskill, NY: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team dominated both sides of the game on Wednesday afternoon, securing a conference sweep over the University of Maine-Presque Isle at Fighting Tiger Field. The Tigers' offense powered a 10-1 victory in the opener before their defense took over in a 4-0 shutout in game two, keeping them unbeaten in NAC play.
Game One: Cobleskill 10, UMPI 1
The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team opened their NAC doubleheader in dominant fashion, rolling past the University of Maine-Presque Isle with a 10-1 victory on their home field.
David Flora (Windsor, NY) led the way at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and three stolen bases.
Logan Firment (Andes, NY/South Kortright) added a perfect 3-for-3 performance with an RBI and a run scored, while
Jesus Sarda (Colonie, NY) chipped in a 2-for-5 effort with two RBIs, a double, and a stolen base.
Cole Platt (Oneonta, NY) went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored while
Korin Laurilla added two RBIs going 1-2 at the plate.
On the mound,
Reis Brammer (Cohoes, NY/CBA Albany) delivered his best outing of the season, fanning a career-high 10 batters over 4.1 innings while allowing just one hit to pick up the win and improve to 2-2.
Mike Markle (West Shokan, NY/Roundout Valley) followed with 2.2 shutout innings, striking out four.
Jack Laughlin (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) and
Zach Ducorsky (Oceanside, NY) handled the final two frames, with Ducorsky shutting the door in the ninth.
The Fighting Tigers wasted no time setting the tone, putting up four runs in the bottom of the first.
Korin Laurilla got things started with an RBI single to bring home
Ryan Lansing (Cooperstown, NY) before
Jesus Sarda followed with a run-scoring knock of his own. A pair of heads-up plays on a passed ball and a groundout brought in two more, giving Cobleskill an early 4-0 advantage.
Cobleskill added two more in the second when
David Flora ripped a two-run single to plate Lansing and
Logan Firment. The Tigers continued to tack on, pushing the lead to 8-0 by the fifth inning. Laurilla's sacrifice fly in the eighth and Sarda's RBI double capped the scoring.
The Owls managed their lone run in the eighth inning on a double steal, but Cobleskill's pitching staff was in control throughout, racking up 16 strikeouts while allowing just five hits

Game Two: Cobleskill 4, UMPI 0
The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team capped off their NAC doubleheader with a strong defensive showing, blanking the University of Maine-Presque Isle 4-0 to complete the sweep and improve to 4-0 in conference play.
Cole Platt provided the big bat for the Tigers, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Korin Laurilla added an RBI double, while
David Flora stayed hot at the plate, finishing 2-for-3.
Jesus Sarda also contributed with a hit and a run scored.
On the mound,
Connor Mulligan (Cheshire, NY) delivered a steady start, picking up his first win of the season. The left-hander worked four scoreless innings, scattering four hits while striking out four.
Logan Scott (Binghamton, NY) and
Dylan Schwam (Cooper City, FL/South Plantation) pitched relief innings before
Adam Champlin (South Kortright, NY) slammed the door in the seventh, earning his third save of the season.
Both teams traded scoreless frames in the opening inning, but Cobleskill struck first in the second. Platt roped a double to left field, bringing home
Christian Tedford (Coxsackie, NY/Coxsackie Athens) and Sarda to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. Cobleskill threatened again in the third with Flora and Sarda on base, but UMPI managed to escape the jam.
The Owls put pressure on Cobleskill's defense in the fifth, loading the bases, but Schwam kept his composure and recorded the final out to keep the shutout intact. The Tigers carried that momentum into the sixth, tacking on two insurance runs. Laurilla drove a double into the outfield to bring home
Logan Firment, and Flora followed with an RBI single to plate
Troy Enamait (Vernon, CT/Rockville), pushing the lead to 4-0.
Champlin took over in the seventh and quickly shut the door. After a smooth double play started by Flora, the closer induced a routine groundout to Lansing to seal the win.
With the victory, Cobleskill moves to 5-7 overall and remains perfect in NAC play at 4-0.
