The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team earned a split on Sunday afternoon against visiting Lesley University, taking the opener 18–3 in dominant fashion before falling 6–5 in a tightly contested nightcap at Fighting Tiger Field.
Game One: Fighting Tigers Unleash Offensive Barrage in 18–3 Win
SUNY Cobleskill overwhelmed Lesley University in the first game, riding a season-high 19-hit performance to an 18–3 victory. The Fighting Tigers jumped ahead early, scoring in each of the first five innings to seize control.
Designate hitter
Korin Laurilla powered the Cobleskill offense, going 3-for-3 with four runs scored, while junior infielder
Cole Platt added a two-run home run and four total RBI on the day. Junior outfielder
Jesus Sarda finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs, pacing an attack that featured seven different Fighting Tigers recording multi-hit games.
On the mound, junior right-hander
Dylan Schwam was steady, tossing 5.0 innings and allowing just two runs on four hits while striking out three to earn the win. Schwam kept the Lesley lineup off balance in a rain-soaked game.
Despite the loss, Lesley's Raymond Morales continued his strong campaign, delivering a 3-for-4 effort at the plate and driving in a run for the Lynx.
Game Two: Lesley Rallies Late to Edge Fighting Tigers, 6–5.
In the second contest, Lesley University showed resilience, rallying from a late deficit to slip past SUNY Cobleskill 6–5 in a seven-inning thriller.
After trailing early, Cobleskill staged a fifth-inning rally, highlighted by RBI singles from
Zach Papanikolatos,
Jeffrey Gutierrez, and
Thomas Reis, 2-RBI single to take a 5–4 lead.
However, Lesley clawed back in the top of the seventh, tying the game on a two-run single by catcher Colin McCarthy, who finished 2-for-4 with a game-high three RBI. Lesley reliever Raymond Morales was outstanding in relief for the Lynx, striking out four across two perfect innings to earn the win and secure the doubleheader split.
Cobleskill's offense saw strong performances again from
Zach Ducorsky, who tallied two hits, and
Korin Laurilla, who added another RBI. Defensively, the Fighting Tigers hurt themselves with two errors, while Lesley played a clean game in the field.
On the season, seniors David Flora and Zach Ducorsky continue to set new career records for hits and stolen bases, respectively.
