Bangor, ME: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team saw its season come to a close Thursday, dropping both games on the opening day of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship Tournament at Husson University. The Fighting Tigers fell 8–2 to the host Eagles in game one, before being eliminated with a 12–3 loss to Lesley University in the nightcap.
Game One: Cobleskill 2, Husson 8
Cole Platt's (Oneonta, NY) moonshot to left wasn't enough to spark the Cobleskill bats as the Tigers opened the tournament with an 8–2 setback against top-seeded Husson.
Platt led the offensive effort, going 1-for-3 with the solo home run. Senior
Zach Ducorsky (Oceanside, NY) capped off a strong performance with a 2-for-4 day that included a double, a triple, and a stolen base.
Korin Laurilla (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) also swiped a bag for the Tigers.
Tanner Wood (Glenville, NY/Niskayuna) got the start and was tagged with the loss (0–5), tossing 2.0 innings and allowing three runs on five hits while fanning two.
Jack Laughlin (Cortlandt Manor, NY/ Walter Panas) provided 3.0 innings of relief, surrendering one run on just one hit.
Cobleskill jumped out early in the first inning. With runners on second and third, Platt ripped a liner to left to bring in Ducorsky and put the Tigers up 1–0. But Husson answered right back with a run in the second to tie it and used a Cobleskill miscue in the third to plate two more for a 3–1 lead.
After two quiet innings, the Eagles broke through again in the sixth with a two-run shot from Jackson Curtis. They kept the momentum going in the seventh, adding three more runs to extend the gap to 8–1.
Platt delivered a late spark with a towering solo blast over the left field scoreboard, but Cobleskill couldn't mount a rally as the Eagles' pitching staff held them to just three hits.
Game Two: Cobleskill 3, Lesley 12
The Fighting Tigers' season came to an end in the nightcap as an early deficit and a seventh-inning surge by Lesley proved too much to overcome in a 12–3 loss.
Logan Firment (Andes, NY/South Kortright) paced the offense with a 3-for-4 outing, while Ducorsky wrapped up his stellar Cobleskill career with a 2-for-5 day that included an RBI and a run scored. Fellow senior
David Flora (Windsor, NY) went 1-for-3 and crossed the plate once.
Jeffrey Gutierrez (Bronx, NY/Cardinal Hayes) added the Tigers' only other hit.
Logan Scott (Binghamton, NY) got the ball to start, working 2.1 innings while allowing three runs on two hits and striking out two.
Evan Balbera (Patchogue, NY/ Patchogue-Medford) turned in a solid middle relief performance with 2.2 innings of work, giving up two runs on four hits and striking out a team-high four. Three additional arms came out of the bullpen to finish the game.
Cobleskill broke through in the fifth when Ducorsky dropped one into right to drive in Flora. With two outs and the bases loaded, the Tigers were primed for more, but Lesley got the third out to escape the jam.
In the sixth,
Christian Tedford (Coxsackie, NY/ Coxsackie Athens) came around to score on an error by the Lynx outfield, trimming the deficit to 5–2. But the wheels came off in the top of the seventh as Lesley erupted for six runs, ballooning their lead to 11–2.
The Tigers scratched across one more in the bottom half when Ducorsky used his speed to score on a throwing error, but the Lynx tacked on a final run in the eighth to close the scoring.
With the pair of losses, Cobleskill's 2025 season comes to a close in the opening round of the NAC Tournament.
