Cobleskill Drops NAC Opener on the Road at Maine Maritime

Castine, ME: The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team opened North Atlantic Conference play on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-0 on the road to Maine Maritime Academy at Ritchie Field.

In a tough road match, Emma Grant (Canastota, NY) registered both of Cobleskill's shots, including a dangerous first-half chance that came from a perfectly timed through ball by senior Jessica Carney (Hopkinton, NH). Grant's attempt forced the Mariners' keeper into a save at the near post. Between the posts, first-year goalkeeper Samantha Fausti (Clayton, WA) stayed active all afternoon, facing a season-high 28 shots and making nine saves to keep the Tigers battling.

Maine Maritime struck early with a fifth-minute tally from Hadley Stoddard, who went on to complete a first-half hat trick as Cobleskill entered the break trailing 3-0. The Tigers battled to stay organized defensively after halftime, but the Mariners eventually broke through again and added four goals in the second half to close out the contest.

Maine Maritime held a 28-2 advantage in total shots, including 16 on target, while also finishing with an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.
