Cobleskill, NY – The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Hilbert College in their home opener on Saturday afternoon at the Fighting Tiger Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
The Hawks struck early, finding the back of the net in the third minute to go up 1-0. Despite the quick setback, the Fighting Tigers settled in and created a few half-chances going forward, but couldn't connect on the final pass in the attacking third. Sophomore goalkeeper
Samantha Rotundo (New Egypt, NJ) kept Cobleskill in the match with several strong saves and timely challenges, finishing the opening half with five stops as the Tigers trailed just 1-0 at the break.
Hilbert doubled their lead in the 50th minute, capitalizing on a through ball that put them in on goal. Just eight minutes later, the momentum shifted further when
Emma Grant was shown a red card, leaving the Tigers to play down a player for the remainder of the match. First-year goalkeeper
Samantha Fausti (Clayton, WA) came on in the second half and recorded four saves to keep the Tigers within striking distance.
Grant registered Cobleskill's lone shot of the afternoon, while
Jessica Carney (Hopkinton, NH) provided energy in the midfield and battled to disrupt Hilbert's possession throughout the game.
Hilbert finished with a 22-1 advantage in shots, including 12 on target.
