COBLESKILL, N.Y. — April 11, 2026 — The SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers split a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader with Vermont State Lyndon on Saturday at Fighting Tiger Field, dropping the opener 12-8 before bouncing back with a convincing 7-1 victory in the nightcap to improve to 11-12 overall and 9-3 in conference play.
Game 1: Vermont State Lyndon 12, SUNY Cobleskill 8
The Fighting Tigers built an 8-2 lead through six innings, only to watch Vermont State erupt for 10 runs in a chaotic seventh inning to steal Game 1. Cobleskill jumped out quickly, with Ryan Lansing delivering the signature blow — a three-run home run in the third inning that made it 3-0. Cole Platt added a two-run shot in the sixth, and Tony Woodie contributed a homer as the Tigers appeared well in control.
But the seventh unraveled in a hurry. Vermont State sent 13 batters to the plate in the frame, capitalizing on four Cobleskill errors on the afternoon and a revolving door at the mound. Na'eem Bornstein-Brown and Jared Ainsworth each struggled to contain the damage, with Tredell Blow's two-run double the key blow in the Lyndon rally. Vermont State finished with 14 hits on the day against four Cobleskill pitchers.
Woodie finished 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI, while Jeffrey Gutierrez went 3-for-4 and scored twice. Lansing's three-run blast was his highlight in a 1-for-4 afternoon. Tanner Wood started and allowed two earned runs over five innings before the bullpen faltered.
Game 2: SUNY Cobleskill 7, Vermont State Lyndon 1
Cobleskill answered with a dominant performance in Game 2, with Connor Mulligan going the distance — all seven innings — for a complete game win, scattering seven hits and striking out three while walking none on 96 pitches. Mulligan improved to 2-3 on the season with his best outing of the year.
The Tigers were silent through three innings before erupting for four runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth. Zach Papanikolatos sparked the fourth-inning rally with an RBI single, and Cole Platt delivered a two-RBI hit with the bases loaded. In the fifth, Woodie put the game away with a two-run home run off reliever Austin Bigelow, and Logan Firment added a solo shot immediately after to push the lead to 7-0.
Woodie was the offensive star of Game 2, going 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored. Firment contributed a homer and an RBI in just three at-bats, while Papanikolatos went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Vermont State's lone run came in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Matt Gonyeau.
Mulligan's efficiency — 65 strikes in 96 pitches, 10 ground ball outs — was the story on the mound, and Cobleskill's defense was clean behind him with no errors.
