Tigers Outlast Thomas In Slugfest To Open NAC Tournament

Bangor, ME: The SUNY Cobleskill baseball team opened the 2026 NAC Baseball Tournament in emphatic fashion Wednesday afternoon, trading punches with Thomas College through nine innings before pulling away with a 16-11 victory at the Winkin Complex in Bangor, Maine.

It was a game that never felt settled, with both teams trading crooked numbers throughout. Cobleskill struck first with three in the first inning and kept adding on, scoring in seven of eight completed innings and finishing with 20 hits on the day. When Thomas threatened to get back into it, the Tigers had an answer.

The offensive performance was headlined by Tony Woodie, who put together one of the more productive afternoons you'll see in a tournament opener. The right fielder went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two walks, and six RBI, doing the bulk of his damage in the middle innings with Thomas pitching trying to find a way to slow him down. He finished a triple shy of the cycle. Cole Platt had a two-homer afternoon, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. Both home runs came in consecutive at-bats in the sixth and seventh innings.

Jeffrey Gutierrez was just as relentless at the top of the order, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBI. He reached base consistently all afternoon, stole two bases, and was a constant presence on the basepaths every time he got on. Jake Brazzano added a double and two RBI out of the two-hole, and Logan Firment drove in two more while Korin Laurilla went 2-for-5 with a double. Ryan Lansing chipped in a hit and a stolen base.

On the mound, Connor Mulligan got the start before the Tigers worked through a bullpen effort the rest of the way. Greg Mable entered in the fifth inning and steadied the ship, tossing 3? innings of three-run ball and earning the win. Jared Ainsworth closed out the final two innings in dominant fashion, allowing just one hit with no runs and one strikeout to preserve the victory.
