Chicopee, Mass. – The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team opened its 2026 season on Tuesday night with a 2-0 road loss to Elms College at Leary Field.
Senior
Spencer Reisman (Youngstown, NY) led the Fighting Tigers with two shots on goal.
Michael Neaton (Saratoga Springs, NY) and
Gavin McEnroe (Burlington Flats, NY) each added a shot, while first-year goalkeeper
Sean Hanrahan (Elmira, NY) impressed in his collegiate debut with seven saves, including a first-half penalty kick stop.
Elms held a 23-5 advantage in shots, putting nine attempts on frame compared to two for Cobleskill. The Trailblazers also held an 8-5 edge in corner kicks. The match was physical throughout, with Elms committing 15 fouls and Cobleskill 13.
The biggest moment of the opening half came in the eighth minute when Elms was awarded an early penalty kick. Hanrahan came up with a big save, diving to his right to keep the match scoreless. Both sides continued to search for the breakthrough, but the defenses held firm as Hanrahan made four first-half saves to send the teams into halftime tied 0-0.
Elms finally broke the deadlock four minutes into the second half when Dru Fairthorne found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Cobleskill responded by pushing numbers forward in search of an equalizer, with Reisman sending a free kick just over the crossbar before forcing a save from the Elms goalkeeper on another opportunity. The Trailblazers doubled their advantage in the 63rd minute, heading home a set piece to make it 2-0.
The Fighting Tigers continued to press forward and created several promising attacking moments down the stretch, but they were unable to find the finishing touch as Elms closed out the 2-0 result.
