Cobleskill, NY – The SUNY Cobleskill men's soccer team carried a 2-1 lead into halftime but was unable to hold off Yeshiva University in the second half, falling 4-2 in its home opener on Sunday afternoon at the Soccer/Lacrosse Complex.
Senior
Declan McCracken (South Kortright, NY) opened his scoring account for the season, while sophomore
Gavin McEnroe (Burlington Flats, NY) also netted his first goal of the year. Senior
Spencer Reisman (Youngstown, NY) recorded his first assist of the season, and fellow senior
Connor Fancher (Worcester, NY) led the Tigers with four shots, including two on target.
First-year goalkeeper
Sean Hanrahan (Elmira, NY) finished with five saves, while Yeshiva goalkeeper Nicolas Galer made four stops.
Both sides generated chances throughout the match, with Cobleskill recording 11 shots, six on target, compared to Yeshiva's 15 shots and nine on frame. The Maccabees also held a slim 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Cobleskill struck first in the 11th minute when Reisman delivered a cross toward the far post and McCracken slotted his finish past the goalkeeper for a 1-0 lead. Yeshiva answered in the 26th minute through Franco Busso to level the match at 1-1. The Tigers regained the advantage in impressive fashion in the 38th minute when McEnroe collected the ball near the right touchline and unleashed a strike from roughly 35 yards out into the upper-left corner, sending Cobleskill into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
Yeshiva found the equalizer in the 56th minute off a cross into the box before taking its first lead in the 77th minute when Asher Light found the bottom corner to make it 3-2. The Maccabees added another goal just one minute later after capitalizing on a Cobleskill mistake to stretch the advantage to 4-2. Cobleskill pushed numbers forward in search of a response, but Yeshiva kept the Tigers off the scoresheet in the second half to close out the match.
