Justin Maxwell was named as the Fighting Tigers Head Men’s Basketball Coach in 2021 after serving in an interim capacity he becomes the 15th head coach in the program’s history. 

Coach Maxwell enters his 5th season as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach of the Fighting Tigers in 2025-26.

Maxwell’s program has achieved historic marks during his tenure. The 2022-23 Season culminated in the program setting its NCAA record for Wins with 18, while also becoming the most improved team in Division III Men’s Basketball that year, increasing the Win total by 15 from the previous season. In the 2023-24 Season, the program won the NAC West Divisional Championship and hosted its first ever Conference Championship Game.

To date, the program has earned one NAC West Divisional Championship, two NAC West Championship appearances, and made three playoff appearances in his first four seasons at the helm. Standout student athletes include All-Conference players Andre Starks (2023, 2024) and Kobe Long (2024). Kobe Long was also named the NAC Rookie of the Year.

Prior to Cobleskill, Maxwell was the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at SUNY Ulster for five seasons. The Program earned a trip to the NJCAA National Sweet 16 after winning the Conference Championship during the 2017-18 Season. It was the programs first winning season in 15 years. He finished his tenure with four playoff appearances in total while coaching six All-Conference players.

Maxwell’s Coaching Career began as an Assistant Coach at Hilbert College from 2012-2015 under Rob DeGrandpre. The program earned 62 Wins during that span, the best three seasons in Program History.

Maxwell holds a Master’s Degree in Sport Administration from Canisius College in 2012, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations from Utica College in 2010. A former Section 2 standout at Guilderland High School under the legendary Ron Osinski, Maxwell was a Suburban Council All Star Selection in 2005. His college career began as a Freshman at Siena College under Fran McCaffery in 2005 before transferring to Utica College in 2007 to finish his career with the Pioneers.

He currently resides in Schenectady, NY with his wife Ashley Maxwell.
