ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's basketball team held off a second-half surge from SUNY Cobleskill to pull out a non-league victory, 60-56, on Tuesday night. With the victory the Raptors improved to 3-3 overall on the season while the Fighting Tigers dropped to 1-6 overall with the loss.
The Raptors led by 10 at halftime and by 13 twice early in the second half. But the lead was 50-39 when the Fighting Tigers (1-6) went on a 9-0 run to cut the lead to two with 9:01 left in the game.
The Raptors pushed the lead back to six, but Cobleskill would not go away and the game wasn't decided until the final horn sounded. Cobleskill's senior forward
Mike Chapman, Brooklyn, N.Y., School for Democracy & Leadership, went to the foul line to shoot one-and-one with 2.5 seconds left and the Fighting Tigers down, 58-55. He made the first to cut the lead to two, but Cobleskill was called for a lane violation on the next foul shot while trying to run a play to secure an offensive rebound off a missed shot.
The Fighting Tigers fouled right away on the inbounds, and Alex Fabean-Scotch, Alexandria, Va., made both to finish the scoring at 60-56 Raptors.
