Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team continued their winning ways on Wednesday evening as the Fighting Tigers out battled the Wildcats of visiting SUNY Polytechnic Institute in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action at the Iorio Gymnasium. The victory extends the Fighting Tigers current winning streak to two games and improves their overall record to 3-8 including a 1-2 mark in NEAC play while the Wildcats fall to 2-9 overall with a 1-2 record in conference play.
The hard hitting contest went down to the final seconds as the home team took a 48-44 lead on a pair of free throws by senior guard
Alexis Nunez, White Plains, N.Y., White Plains High School, with only 11 seconds remaining. However the Wildcats would not give up as freshman guard Ryan McCarthy, Camden, N.Y., Camden High School, nailed a deep three-pointer with 4.8 seconds left to make the score 48-47.
Cobleskill then took a time out and designed a play to get the ball back into Nunez's capable hands and the senior co-captain was fouled with 2.9 seconds remaining. Nunez converted both of his subsequent free throws to make the score 50-47 Fighting Tigers lead; which was the final margin of victory as Polytechnic could not get a shot off, before the buzzer sounded.
Ryan McCarthy led the visitors in scoring with 12 points to go with six rebounds while junior forward Kaleel Johnson, Syracuse, N.Y., Syracuse Academy of Science, scored 11 points and took down six rebounds. The Wildcats also received nine points, five rebounds and four assists from junior guard Maverick Hodge, Bronx, N.Y., Samuel Gompers High School,
