Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team's struggles continued on Wednesday evening as the Fighting Tigers were blown out by the Wildcats of visiting SUNY Polytechnic Institute in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action by a 77-40 margin. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 1-7 including a 0-3 mark in NEAC play while the Wildcats to 5-5 overall with a 3-0 record in conference play.

The Wildcat defense played a major role in the victory forcing 35 Fighting Tiger turnovers on the evening while limiting the home team to only 11-for-46 from the field, 23.9%, in the contest.

Polytechnic freshman guard Molly MacLachlan, Marcellus, N.Y., Marcellus High School, led the visitors in scoring with 17 points while junior Geena Gallo, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Ballston Spa High School, hit for 13 points to go with a game high five steals. The visitors also received 11 points and nine rebounds from freshman swing-player Bethany Karl, Sidney, N.Y., Sidney High School, in the win.

The Fighting Tigers were led by sophomore forward Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, who posted her eighth consecutive double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds on the evening. The Orange & Black also received 12 rebounds and five points from junior forward Cassie Beaver, Sherburne, N.Y., Sherburne-Earlville High School.    

Cobleskill will next be in action over the weekend when they travel to Washington, D.C. to meet the Bison of Gallaudet University in NEAC action on Saturday January 17 beginning at 1:00 p.m.

The Wildcats will also be in league action on Saturday when they travel to Chambersburg, Pa. to face the Phoenix of Wilson College beginning at 3:00 p.m.
