Men's Basketball Defeats Wilson College Phoenix 74-64 in Conference Play

Fighting Tigers Extend Winning Streak to Four Games with 74-64 Road Win

Chambersburg, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team continued their winning ways on Sunday afternoon by recording a rollercoaster win over the Phoenix of Wilson College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play by a 74-64 margin to extend their current winning streak to four games. The victory improves the Cobleskill overall record to 5-8 on the season including a 3-2 mark in conference play while Wilson falls to 3-7 overall including a 2-4 mark versus NEAC opponents.

After racing out to an 18 point first half lead with 6:06 remain the Fighting Tigers held a 38-28 advantage at half time. The second half saw the Phoenix start off by outscoring the visitors 14-0 to take a 42-38 lead at the 13:03 mark then extending their advantage to 45-40 with 11:38 left in the half on a three-point basket by sophomore forward Ben Holl, Philadelphia, Pa., Friends Select High School.

Cobleskill then went on a 12-0 run of their own; taking the lead for good at 47-45 on a pair of free throws by senior guard Alexis Nunez, White Plains, N.Y., White Plains High School, at the 8:38 mark then extending their advantage to 52-45 on a short jumper by junior center Travis Woods, Mount Upton, N.Y., Unatego High School, with 7:45 left to play. From there the visitors never looked back leading by as many as 18 points down the stretch.

Alexis Nunez continued to be the driving force in the Fighting Tigers attack with a game high 19 points to go with five rebounds and three steals with Travis Woods adding 10 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots to the team's victory totals. Senior forward Mike Chapman, Brooklyn, N.Y., School for Democracy & Leadership, was also a factor in the win with eight points and four rebounds.

The Orange & Black's strong and balanced play off their bench was a decisive factor in the win with: senior swingman Dane Brown, White Plains, N.Y., White Plains High School, scoring 10 points and grabbing a pair of rebounds, senior forward Cortrell King, Brentwood, N.Y., Upper Room Christian High School/Suffolk Community College, chipping in seven points and six rebounds and senior forward Mike Marcelin, Dix Hills, N.Y., Half Hallow Hills East High School/Suffolk Community College, adding scoring seven points in a reserve role.
