Washington, D.C.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team broke a six-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon topping the host Bison of Gallaudet University by a 3-2 margin in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play. With the victory the Fighting Tigers improve to 2-12 overall on the season including a 2-7 record in conference action while the Bison fall to 3-15 overall on the year with a 1-10 mark in conference contests.
The Fighting Tigers took an early 1-0 lead courtesy of their hosts when the Bison allowed an own goal in the 4
th minute of play. After the home team scored in the 43
rd minute the game the teams finished the first half tied at 1-1.
In the second half Cobleskill received a pair of goals from junior midfielder
Megan Golden, Oxford, N.Y., Oxford Academy, as the Fighting Tiger veteran scored unassisted in the 49
th minute on a blast from inside the box then tallied the eventual game winner in the 68
th minute on an assist from freshman midfielder
Leigha La Tourette, Downsville, N.Y., Downsville High School, which made the score 3-1 at the time.
After a goal by the home team in the 78
th minute the Orange & Black stiffened defensively as sophomore goalie
Sabrina Adams, Oswego, N.Y., Mexico High School, directed the back line to perfection while contributing nine saves on the afternoon to secure the victory.
Cobleskill will return to action on Sunday afternoon, October 25
th when they travel to Chambersburg, Pa. to face the Phoenix of Wilson College in NEAC play beginning at 2:00 p.m.
