Women's Soccer Tops Wilson College Phoenix in NEAC Contest 1-0 on Late Goal

Morganne Dick Scores Late Goal to Give Fighitng Tigers the Conference Win

Chambersburg, Pa.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's soccer team scored a late goal in dramatic fashion to post a 1-0 victory over the host Phoenix of Wilson College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) play on Sunday afternoon. The victory extends the Fighting Tigers winning streak to two games and improves their overall record to 3-12 on the year including a 3-7 mark in NEAC play while the Phoenix fall to 2-11-1 overall with a 1-10 record in conference play.

Despite holding impressive advantages in total shots, 16-to-6, and shots-on-goal, 10-to-2, the Fighting Tigers found themselves deadlocked with their hosts at 0-0 late in the second half.

Then late in the 86th minute of play, Cobleskill was awarded a free kick from several yards outside the Wilson box.  Freshman midfielder Leigha La Tourette, Downsville, N.Y., Downsville High School, took the kick and found high flying sophomore forward Morganne Dick, Johnstown, N.Y., Johnstown High School, for a header which found the back of the Phoenix's net to give the Fighting Tigers a 1-0 lead with 3:07 remaining in regulation.

Over the last three minutes of the contest the Orange & Black's defense put on a clinic not allowing Wilson any shots on goal to preserve the shutout victory for sophomore goalkeeper Sabrina Adams, Oswego, N.Y., Mexico High School, who needed to make only two saves on the afternoon to record her first shutout victory of the season.

The Fighting Tigers will next be in action on Friday October 30th when they host the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College for a NEAC contest with kick-off at 3:30 p.m.
