Fighting Tiger Women's Cagers Down Mount Ida Mustangs 73-69 for First Win of Season at Keene State Tournament

Shelby Preston Named to All-Tournament Team after 30 Point/15 Rebound Effort


Keene, N.H.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team notched their first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon by defeating the Mustangs of Mount Ida College 73-69 in the consolation round of the 2015 Keene State College Tournament. With the victory the Fighting Tigers even their overall record at 1-1 on the year while the Mustangs fall to 0-2 on the campaign.

Trailing 57-56 with 7:08 remaining in regulation Cobleskill went on a 13-0 run highlighted by six points from junior forward Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Raven-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, and five points form senior swing-player Ashley Creighton, Niskayuna, N.Y., Catholic Central High School/Schenectady Community College, on their way to a 69-56 advantage from which they never looked back to claim the win.

Preston earned All-Tournament Team honors at the event by posting 30 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots in the victory while Creighton finished the day with an impressive 13 points, eight rebounds and seven assists on the afternoon. The Orange & Black also received 13 points and a pair of assists from junior point guard Shiann Coons, Albany, N.Y., Bishop McGinn High School/Schenectady Community College, in the victory.   

Cobleskill will next be in action on Saturday November 21st when the team travels to North Adams, Mass. for a non-conference contest with the Trailblazers of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) beginning at 4:00 p.m.
