Cobleskill, N.Y.: After starting out with an exception first half the SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball team suffered a second half meltdown and dropped a 70-64 decision to visiting Maine-Fort Kent in non-league play at the Iorio Gymnasium on Tuesday evening. The loss moves the Fighting Tigers season record to 0-8 overall on the year while the Bengals even their season mark at 7-7 overall.
The Fighting Tigers employed a smothering first half defense to take a 30-19 lead into halftime holding the visitors to only 5-for-20 from the field, 25.0%, while forcing the Bengals into seven turnovers in the stanza.
However the second half proved to be a different story as Fort Kent outscored their hosts 51-34 behind the tandem of junior forward Joe McCloskey, Howland, Maine, Penobscot Valley High School, who finished the night with 23 points, 12 rebounds and three assists and senior swingman Marquis Glenn, East Oakland, Calf., Canada College, who came in off the bench to toss in 22 points and grab 11 rebounds on the evening.
The Fighting Tigers posted some balanced scoring with: senior center
Brandon Smith, Brentwood, N.Y., Brentwood High School/Suffolk Community College, notching a double/double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, sophomore swingman
Frank D'Esti, Vestal, N.Y., Vestal High School/Broome Community College, chipping in 12 points and seven rebounds, senior forward Kemar Hemming, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Poughkeepsie High School, scoring 12 points, taking down four rebounds and making three steals and junior guard
Quincey Miller, Brooklyn, N.Y., Lafayette High School/Potomac State College, scoring 12 points to go with four rebounds. Junior guard
Ralph Erickson, Melrose, N.Y., LaSalle Institute, also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points on the evening.
Cobleskill will next be in action when on Saturday December 5
th when they open their North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) season by hosting the Wolfpack of Keuka College with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
