Women's Basketball Loses NEAC Contest to Wells College 73-62 to Close Semester

Turnovers Hurt Fighting Tigers in NEAC Loss to Wells College

Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's basketball team closed out the 2015 portion of their schedule on Sunday afternoon by dropping a 72-62 decision to the visiting Express of Wells College in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action. The loss drops the Fighting Tigers to 2-5 overall with a 1-1 conference record heading into the holidays while Wells improves to 5-4 overall with a 2-1 record in league action.

Despite posting one of their best shooting efforts in recent seasons, hitting on 27-of-54, 51.9%, from the field, the Fighting Tigers hurt themselves with turnovers as 24 give-a-ways led to 29 points by Wells which kept the home team at bay and secured the victory for the visitors.

Senior forward Ashley Creighton, Niskayuna, N.Y., Catholic Central High School/Schenectady Community College, led the team in scoring with 13 points to go with five rebounds while freshman point guard Cassie Semaerad, Scotia, N.Y., Scotia-Glenville High School, came off the pines to score a career high 11 points, pass out five assists, grab three rebounds and notch three assists on the afternoon. Junior forward Shelby Preston, Ravena, N.Y., Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School, was saddled with early foul trouble but still finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Cobleskill will next be in action after New Year's when they travel to Morrisville, N.Y. to meet the Mustangs of Morrisville State College in NEAC play with tip-off slated for 3:00 p.m.
