Cobleskill, N.Y.: The SUNY Cobleskill men's basketball worked overtime on Sunday afternoon to post an important 89-83 victory over North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) rival Penn State Berks at the Iorio Gymnasium. The win improves the Fighting Tigers overall record to 13-10 on the year including a NEAC North Division leading 11-4 mark while the Nittany Lions fall to 6-17 overall with a 6-10 record in league play.
With the Fighting Tigers leading 71-68 with 6.9 seconds remaining in regulation, Berks junior guard Christian Burggraf, Reading, Pa., Muhlenberg High School, converted an off-balanced three-point attempt off a broken side out-of-bounds play to tie the score at 71-71 with 1.2 seconds left.
In the overtime Cobleskill pulled away for good on a pair of lay-ups by senior guard
Alexis Nunez, White Plains, N.Y., White Plains High School, which game the home team an 84-79 lead with 40 seconds remaining. The Fighting Tigers then won the free throw battle down the stretch to preserve the lead and secure the much needed home victory.
Nunez once again led the way for the Orange & Black scoring a game high 24 points to go with five rebounds and a pair of assists while junior center
Travis Woods, Mount Upton, N.Y., Unatego High School, provided the inside muscle with 16 points, eight rebounds, four blocked shots and three assists on the afternoon.
Cobleskill also received important contributions from: junior swingman
Brian Jackson, Bronx, N.Y., Global Enterprise Academy, with 15 points, and three rebounds, senior forward
Cortrell King, Brentwood, N.Y., Upper Christian Reading Room High School/Suffolk Community College, with 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots and from senior forward
Mike Chapman, Brooklyn, N.Y., School for Democracy & Leadership, who posted 11 points, to go with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.
The Fighting Tigers will return to the hardwood on Friday February 20 when they host league rival Wells College beginning at 7:00 p.m.
