Fighting Tigers Roll Over Notre Dame of Maryland 15-2 and Gallaudet University 11-3 in Non-League Action

Cobleskill Pounds out 16 Hits in Victory Over MDUM Gators


Washington D. C.: The SUNY Cobleskill women's softball team closed their opening season road trip on Sunday by flexing their offensive muscles in a sweep of  a pair of games hosted by Gallaudet University at the GU Softball Complex.  The Fighting Tigers used a potent offense and a pair of solid pitching effort to post victories over the Gators Notre Dame University of Maryland by a score of 15-2 then closed their day with a win over the host Bison of Gallaudet University by a 11-3 tally to improve to 3-1 overall on the season.

The Fighting Tigers opened the day's action by taking only five innings to subdue the Gators of Notre Dame University of Maryland 15-2 as Cobleskill jumped out to a 5-0 first inning lead and never looked back. The visiting New Yorkers pounded out 16 hits including six hits of the extra base variety and scored in every inning of the contest to dominate the action.

Junior catcher Madeline DeMilio, Valhalla, N.Y., Valhalla High School, was the team's offensive catalyst as the reigning North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) North Division Player-of-the-Year went 4-for-4 from the lead-off spot with including a triple, a double, three runs scored and a pair of RBI.

The Orange & Black also received strong offensive outings from: freshman first baseman Morgan Nichols, who was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBI, freshman shortstop Angela Fix, Livingston, N.Y., Germantown High School, who was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and three RBI and freshman second baseman Jaimee Lord, Mechanicville, N.Y., Ballston Spa, N.Y., who was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a RBI.

Freshman hurler Emily Anger, Atlanta, N.Y., Wayland-Cohocton High School, who went the distance to earn her first collegiate win giving up two earned runs while striking out two and walking three in five innings.  

Once again in the second game, the Fighting Tigers required less than seven innings to decide the issue downing the host Bison by an 11-3 tally to avenge a 6-3 loss on Saturday. Cobleskill once again was potent with the lumber pounding out 10 hits including four doubles and a home run in the victory.
Leading 7-3 in the top of the sixth inning junior first baseman Erin Wadsworth, Valatie, N.Y., Ichabod Crane High School, broke the game wide open with a grand slam home run that gave Cobleskill the final margin of victory.

Wadsworth led the team at the plate going 2-for-4 with a homer, two runs scored and four RBI while catcher/lead-off hitter Madeline DeMilio continued her strong road-trip extending her hitting streak to four games by going 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, a run scored and a RBI. Sophomore left fielder Easton Murray, Greenwich, N.Y., Greenwich High School, was also a factor with the bat going 2-for-4 on the day with a double, three runs scored and a pair of RBI.

Freshman right-hander Morgan Nichols, Syracuse, N.Y., West Genesee High School, posted the complete game victory striking out four and walking no one in six innings of work to improve to 2-0 overall on the season.

The Fighting Tigers are next tentatively scheduled to host Penn College of Technology for a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) games on Saturday March 28 beginning at 1:00 p.m. weather permitting.
